Occupational Training and Training Funding

Funding for classroom instruction may be offered to eligible* (see below for more information on eligibility) customers to upgrade their skills or learn a new skill to achieve their career goals. Funding for training is provided in occupations with a high potential for placement and retention into unsubsidized employment. Classroom training programs are subject to change based on the local economy, local labor market conditions and the availability of federal funding.

Eligibility Requirements

* To be eligible you must either meet our adult low income priority guidelines or have been classified as dislocated workers. Males 18 or older born after 1959 must also have registered with Selective Service. You must be legally allowed to work in the United States.  There are specific criteria that an individual must meet in order to be certified as a dislocated worker. Priority for service is given to: low income individuals, individuals employed in a documented declining industry, individuals in receipt of Public Assistance with no alternative funding sources available, veterans and their eligible spouses, and individuals who are disabled with no alternative funding sources available.

Minimum documentation required at eligibility interview:

Adult Low Income Priority

  • Birth Certificate OR proof of legal alien status
  • Driver’s License or State ID card
  • Proof of your current street address (must be an Ulster County resident)
  • Social Security card
  • DD-214 (Veterans only)
  • Proof of gross family income for last six months OR
  • Current Public Assistance/Food Stamp budget letter OR
  • SSI award letter
  • Either a birth certificate OR social security card for each family member
  • Selective Service registration number for males 18 or older born after 1959
  • Written record of your job search
  • Other documents may be required

Dislocated Worker

  • Dislocated Worker Certificate
  • Birth certificate OR proof of legal alien status
  • Something with your current address (must be an Ulster County resident)
  • Social Security card
  • DD-214 (Veterans only)
  • Dislocated Worker Certification issued by a Ulster County Career Center
  • Selective Service registration number for males 18 or older born after 1959
  • Written record of your job search
  • Other documents may be required
